I suppose I'll have to ask my mom about it, but she tends to get snippy with me when I ask her about Japanese stuff. She tells me I have a "complex" about my Japanese heritage just because I want to explore it. Whatever, mom.
To be quite honest, I've been getting into tattoos and body modifications and I was thinking that a family crest would make an awesome tattoo, a nice departure from the standard kanji tattoos that everyone seems to get. Also, it's yet another way for me to connect up with that side of my life, which lately has been getting very important for me.

I will post an image soon....
Kamon link in eigo:
wow that is a great link...!! i'll have to figure out what mine is (??)
so neat... i will pass it along to other nikkei!
so the family crest isn't necessarily based one's name? how does it work?
since i am a nakayama (grandfather's side) or a uyeyama (grandmother's side) does that mean my crest is of a mountain?

It's kind of like my American family's coat of arms...everyone thinks we're Irish descent...so I agree...even though we have loads of english including Hathaway family.... And then I'm also supposed to be part Polish -american descent 1/4 .... too...
Additionally; I have an Uncle... RyoRyu...and I learned that I have some Chinese descent from many generations (at least 3 generations ago)....

I did a search on the same web and my mom's surname came up as kirimon too!
My mom's got a couple of kimono with the family crest on it, have to actually check it out to double check ne.
I wonder if these kamon search websites have accurate information or not.
