So what counts as being offensive?

So I'm sure most of us on here have experienced people you just met trying to figure out what exactly we are in terms of our family background, but what counts as being an innocent inquiry out of curiosity, unintended insult due to ignorance, and just plain racism? Basically this past weekend I met a guy and a girl at a bar (they didn't know each other either) and this is how the conversation went after about 5 minutes:

Guy: "So, I don't mean to be insulting or anything, but what's your background? Are you part Asian?"
Me: "I'm half-Japanese."
Guy: "Oh, OK. You definitely seem to have some Asian in you...sorry, didn't meant to insult you."
Me: "Nope, not insulting at all."
Girl (to Guy): "Don't worry, you just need to now tell him he looks more white than Asian."
Me: "Now that's bordering on insulting."

Not that I was really bothered by this, but just found it odd that the girl would think it's a compliment for a halvsie to be told that he looks more white than Asian. They were both friendly cool people, but just got me thinking how others on here thought about this. I guess white people probably think that a halvsie would prefer to blend in with whites, but the main reason I've stayed in LA for so long is more for the large Japanese population here for the best of both worlds, otherwise I'd go back to the boondocks where I grew up with no access to Japanese culture at all.

Any Tokyo bar recommendations?

So I bought my ticket to go to Tokyo next month, and though I'll probably be spending most of my free time playing mahjong with my relatives, there will definitely be times that I want to get away from them for a while. Can anybody recommend some laid-back bars that I can go to by myself without the music stopping and everyone turning their heads to stare at the gaijin the second I walk through the door?

For reference my favorite bar so far is Propaganda in Roppongi because it's a small chill place where it's always the same friendly bartenders interacting with the regulars, but everything else seems to be a large club scene or an izakaya. Is my only hope finding the occasional Irish pub? Oh, and I'll mostly be staying in the Jiyugaoka area, so thinking anything along the lines of Meguro, Shibuya, and Shinjyuku would be fairly close.

Grooming and othr issues...

this thread is about likes and dislikes and "what do u do" regarding grooming one's self and the whole "package"... we sarted a "conversation| on the underwear preferences and i thought we should continue it here instead of hijacking that thread..

afterall.. this is a molto importante issue

anyway.. so the "Debate" was about turns on and offs regarding underwear and also about grooming.. in men and women... i was rading Erin's comment... regarding hair on men...
I suppose, since I live in Greece and I am used to hairy men -hairy-er than Japanese men for sure- I dont mind some hair on men... I am not fond of hair on the back.. like a carpet thing.. that puts me off although... at the age of 34 and spinsterhood I rally shouldnt be that picky

as I have mentioned before, it is super fashionable for young men nowadays to shave all their hair.. from face to toes... I find this a bit too much.. unless u are a waterpolo/swimmer/diver/100mracer/ (u get the idea), I dont like men to have less hair than I do...

so to me, shaved/waxed men is not exacly a turn off but surely an kind of situation...

life gimmick for halvsies

A friend asked me, which tricks you have. What is what makes you sometimes more winning than the others? I laughed and said the bath after toilet. Hamah. No true.

Well what I use. I use vet. It’s more hygienic.

But what makes me calmative.

First I can cook. My trick is, for everyday life. I use a lot the deep freezer stuff. Like, I cook a lot of frozen vegetables. And fire them directly in the pan. Frozen--->fry. Sack.
Like green peens and vegetable mixtures. And after this I also use the frozen spices. Very fast. Then my best is I use frozen berries like raspberries. Sometimes I put them in the pan with sugar for a very sweet sauce for bread or sweet dishes. Sometimes I just steer them slightly with the mixer (need a strong one) and make it toile with brown sugar. Best ice.

And frozen steak also. Pan. And with the frozen vegetables. Everything very fast. But I can do a lot more fast healthy dishes.

Then I use solarium. Cause in my hood, its not that sunny. Plus I use skin cream
with self breeze, and simply everything in it. Cause I have to come around normal and skin is the first sign for beauty. In the meantime even man has to do this.

One other trick is I have a clipper on my key fob, because I often forget to cut them. I see and cut.

Well I have a phone jet 8000. And the two best things about it, there is a fake call. I press 4 sec. the button. Then it seems someone calls me. And when I sit I the tramp or local, and I am stress. I press, and then I talk fake, but about the person that stands there so that he here something’s like, well I like you but you have really ugly shoes, but its ok.
I also download scrubs soundtracks on my handy with youtubeconverter, put it on the handy. And ply the sound when I am stressed and too much people. That calms them down, and if they here this, they starts to like me like dogs. I also do golden girls for hateful grannies. Dogs.

Then I have some moves. Like a harsh move to the chin with my hand, I f someo.ne gets on my nerves on street or local... the best one is move to the nose. Noooooo se. al in all I try to build in moves into my conversation. That makes one smarter. You better memorize.

If I have I problem I first search for it on YouTube. How to do this shit. And afterwards maybe in forums. The word and forum. And well.

Some small things. Out of a big life.

Compromising Situations.

So halvsie, here's the story:

I live in a house with my boyfriend, another couple, and two single guys. My boyman is gone for the week at a family reunion so I've just been hanging out with everyone not doing anything in particular. The other night my roommates decided to drink a little and get silly and we all wound up in one of the single guys' room watching silly things on his computer. I was the last to vacate the room and my (drunken) roommate starts venting to me about all his horrible relationships (he was with a girl for eight years and they were going to get married, but she broke the engagement to "have some fun"). He was all teary and sad looking and didn't want to be alone so I told him I'd stay in his room until he fell asleep. So, at this point I'm sitting in a bed with my friend while he's crying/sleeping/having a nightmare on my lap and the other couple (who were also belligerent, by the way) come to the conclusion that we were trying to get "freaky" with one another. While the door was wide open. And while everyone was still awake. And while he was crying.

So now the other girl that lives here thinks I'm a total bimbo, and refuses to talk to me. And her boyfriend is whipped, so he won't hear me out either. The situation is not really so hectic anymore, because I talked to my boyfriend and he's upset that my roommates have such little faith in me.

UGHHH. I hate it when people jump to conclusions.
