"Hafu" Documentary looking for central character

I saw this posted on another forum and thought it would be perfect to post here.

“Hafu" -a documentary film about the experiences of mixed-raced Japanese living in Japan is looking for a mixed-Japanese individual who has either recently arrived or is planning to move to Japan within 2010 to participate in the film as a central character.

The documentary “Hafu” will chronicle the everyday lives of six individuals living in Japan. Five of these six stories will be focused on individuals who have spent a considerable amount of time in Japan. However, we the filmmakers recognize that there are many people who identify as being mixed-Japanese who have little or no experience of Japan. Thus we are searching for an individual who would be interested in having their time in Japan documented on film.
Ideally this person has limited experience of Japan and is coming to Japan to spend some considerable time (a few months to a few years) in order to either learn the language, experience the culture and/or discover for themselves what being Japanese means to them. We are looking for someone in the early 20's -30s range and would like to begin documenting their journey as close as to their arrival to Japan. They can be a student, right out of university, and/or working.
To learn more about the project visit http://www.hafufilm.com and their blog: http://hafufilm.wordpress.com

The filmmakers Megumi Nishikura and Lara Perez Takagi, are mixed-race Japanese themselves and their aim is to produce this film for television audiences in Japan and abroad. Their previous productions include documentaries for the United Nations, Associated Press, and various others news and TV productions. In 2009, Megumi produced the Loving Day Flagship Celebration Video (YouTube - Loving Day Flagship Celebration 2009) for the Loving Day Project - an organization which celebrates the day that interracial marriage was legalized in the United States. They are passionate about telling stories that reminds audiences of our common humanity.

If you are interested in being considered for the film, please send an email to info@hafufilm.com with the following information:
Name
Age/Birthday
Current location
Nationality/Mix
Plans to arrive to Japan (When, what for)
Short paragraph in why you are interested in sharing your experiences on film
and a recent photo of yourself.
The run is believed to be one of the biggest losing streaks by an individual in Las Vegas history. It devoured much of Mr. Watanabe's personal fortune, he says, which he built up over more than two decades running his family's party-favor import business in Omaha, Neb. It also benefitted the two casinos' parent company, Harrah's Entertainment Inc., which derived about 5.6% of its Las Vegas gambling revenue from Mr. Watanabe that year.

Chiropractors

So...this past year I have suddenly come down with a number of health problems and have found the quality of my life suddenly diminished in a really traumatic and stressful way. I have been to a lot of doctors and tried various diets and treatments, but nothing has completely turned this shit around. What has worked the best for me so far is Chinese Herbal Medicine--amazing stuff. It really helped me go back to a somewhat normal life for a while. But I am still not back to my normal genki self.

Then, one of my student's fathers who happens to be a multi-millionaire with a lot of influence, he expressed his concern for me and said that he wants me to try his chiropractor, who he claims has even treated Madonna, and who, he says, has cured him of various ailments in the past. I am willing to try anything, and he was so kind to think of me, that I made an appointment for next week.

The thing is--I'm not really sure what I think of chiropractors. There is a lot of controversy surrounding their practice and I always tended to side with people who said that the most they did was crack some bones, make people feel a bit better for a few hours, and cured things only through the placebo effect. BUT I also want to keep an open mind...so I was wondering what you all thought. Are they worth it? Or are they quacks?

you know my home area. so much people are seeking their chances from outside but i think we can not afford it. plus young foreigners, like me half was. they need to learn to deal with the situation here, so they have to quarrel, so somebody tells them the rules. grannys are upset. hahah ironic.
"the others learn their rules, while the young man struggles on--->this fight he can not win. on can not allwas only fullfill chliès.
i never new why some people are against foreigners, but now i know. people whatch Mtv and think we are NY, well we do not work that way.
last time i saw in my really home place "people i did not know" and first time i could understand natives, what i am somehow too.
well a bit Ny is ok, and some fresh blood, but not so much waste blood. but ok is not sayable, cause, if you act, eat etc right, some can become
also ok. mhhhh

and especially or mulim friends. i talked with one of the upperclass turkish, and he told me their people are not very clever. he does not care and does elctro music. they are really not the wisest, caues kids have the intelligence from their mother most times, and they lock away their woman. some has to take consequences, but thats not my problem, thats their.

next hing. this first generation. they do not know how the rules work, mistreat some ethymology rules and cause hate. but they they are right, caues sou know. they are evil i am good.
you know we get in the moment in some little multicultural ways. grannys from this side say that, cause they like to know everything, and grannys from that ethnik side tell this. but i also know what they...

Ampsurf

As some of you may have noticed, I'm involved quite a bit with a group called AMPsurf, an organization that teaches disabled folks to surf. We're based on the central coast of Calif. and I know a lot of you aren't in the area, but if you happen to know someone with any sort of disability that's expressed an interest in learning how to surf, or if you think you might be able to talk them into it in order to maintain a more 'normal' lifestyle, we're the place to come! We've worked with single/double/triple amputees; Traumatic Brain Injuries; para/quadra/teraplegics; the blind; autistic folks, and have instructors with many years of experience both surfing and handling/teaching these people how to have fun in the water. The ocean's quite a healing place to go too, so it's not just about catching waves, there's spiritual side to it too. During Operation Restoration, we can try to get transportation for those who can't afford it, but can't promise to bring EVERYONE one out who wants to come. We also put 'em up in local hotels and we're donated meals by many of the local eateries, so the food's taken care of too. We furnish surf/body and knee boards, and wetsuits/booties/hoods. We've worked with many combat-wounded veterans and also non-veteran disabled people, and quite a few keep coming back and getting better and better and having more fun each time!

I pm'ed with Saren and he's given me the OK to put some stuff on here about the organization, so I've included the 2010 schedule of clinics we're gonna do up and down the coast. We can also use volunteers at any of the events if anyone's interested and/or has the time to do so. We're 100% non-profit and are funded ONLY through donations. None of us is a paid employee, we just dig what we're doing. You will too, should you come out to volunteer, or bring a disabled friend/family member out for some surfing!

Here's our 2010 schedule of one-day clinics and also the 5th Operation Restoration:
Below is the 2010 schedule of events:

Halloween.

Ugh, gotta think of two separate Halloween costume ideas

The day before Halloween (Halloween is on a Saturday, usually it's the day of) everyone in school dresses up. For that, my friends Grace, Jake, and I are all dressing up together and we want to think of something funny. We thought it'd be hilarious if Grace and I dressed up as like ACTUAL funny cops (like stuffed shirts, doughnuts, fake moustaches, appropriate uniform) and Jake dressed up as a slutty cop. However, Jake is not as eager to try this idea hahaha.

There's also a huge costume party that Friday, so I gotta think up another outfit that's good for a party but not something generic like slutty fireman or whatever.

Any ideas? Maybe something interesting you've seen someone wear in the past?

Monbukagakusho Scholarship = Japanese Citizenship GONE

G'day guys,

I find myself in a bit of an unko situation. I live in Australia, am over the age of 21 and as of yet have not submitted my form to the appropriate places in Japan saying, "Ko-knee-chee-way I am choosing to become only Australian". So I am technically still both Japanese and Australian.

When I finish my degrees at Uni, I wish to focus on furthering my Japanese. The most attractive way for me to do this is by applying for the Monbukagakusho Scholarship. I am fairly confident that I can get it, however for me to be candidate I have to prove that I am solely Aussie and not Japanese. *ba bow*...

The Monbukagakusho scholarship is pretty much all expenses paid.

Option 1) Renounce the Japanese citizenship and apply with no guarantee that I'll get a position.
Option 2) Be a sneaky soldier and keep the Japanese citizenship and not apply.

Which option would you take?
