What is Halvsie?

A halvsie is a person with half Japanese heritage. The term was coined to replace the more general ‘hapa’. Halvsie was inspired by the Japanese ‘hafu’ used to describe offspring of a mixed marriage, and derived from the English ‘halves’.

Halvsie.com hosts a forum where our members introduce themselves to other half Japanese, some finding other halvsies in their cities for the very first time. Many of our members have found kindship in their country were they once thought that they were rare. Informal groups have arisen in Tokyo, Los Angeles, London, and Helsinki and many a nomikai have been organized under the halvsie banner.

As you can see from the image above there are a lot of famous half Japanese including Dave Roberts, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Alpolo Ohno, Rina Chinen, Sean Lennon, Ann Curry, Karen Gomyo, Edna Mode and Devon Aoki. They span continents and categories and we have chronicled literally hundreds of them in our Wiki.
